Success by Design for the 2022 DTA Graduate of the Year

Zoran Prokopovic has been running S&S DESIGN, a thriving kitchen and bathroom design business in Perth, making waves in the industry since 2016. With a background as a skilled Cabinet Maker for over 18 years, Zoran has honed his expertise in manufacturing custom cabinetry, including kitchens, bathrooms, and laundries. Zoran’s educational journey has been instrumental in shaping his career. Gaining a Certificate III in Cabinet Making in 2005, this foundational training in cabinetmaking laid the groundwork for future success. It gave him the technical skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the industry. However, his interaction with architects and designers ignited his passion for further developing his design skills. Recognising the significance of kitchens and bathrooms in a home, Zoran saw an opportunity to express his design ideas and embarked on a journey to become a qualified Kitchen and Bathroom Designer. In 2020, he pursued a specialist design qualification – Certificate IV in Kitchen and Bathroom Design with Designer Training Australia (DTA). The decisionwas pivotal in his career, and this equipped him with the expertise and insights needed to excel in his chosen niche, allowing him to integrate his design skills with his cabinet-making background seamlessly. This qualification broadened his understanding of design principles and ignited his passion for creating beautiful spaces. Zoran proved to have an eye for detail and was able to successfully integrate his years of experience as a Cabinet Maker with his design course. He was awarded the 2022 DTA Graduate of the Year Award for demonstrating exceptional achievements throughout his studies. He was delighted to be recognised for his hard work and has taken his new design skills into his business enhancing the client experience. While Zoran gravitates towards modern design styles, with a particular interest in Coastal and Hamptons aesthetics, he prioritises understanding his client’s needs and preferences. Collaborating closely with his clients, he strives to achieve their design goals for their homes. Recently, he completed a stunning project featuring American Walnut Veneer in a kitchen and living room, accentuated by negative details and fabric panels. Zoran stays up to date with current trends pouring over design catalogues, and browsing the internet to stay ahead of current trends, finding inspiration on platforms like Pinterest. The joy of transforming a space and witnessing the before-and-after pictures fuels his creativity and dedication to providing exceptional design solutions. From the initial client brief and site survey to the final material selection, Zoran embraces the challenge and finds ultimate satisfaction in delivering beautiful and functional spaces.
