Design Essentials for Modular Kitchens Short Course is for those wanting to design and present design concepts to clients for modular kitchens (ie design kitchens using a predetermined selection of cabinet sizes, finishes and colours).

Course Details

- Those wanting to work in the industry looking for a career change
- Experienced designers wanting to undertake an accredited training course
- Those working in a retail environment wanting to learn more about kitchen design
This course is delivered to students all over Australia by distance education. This is a combination of online learning and remote private classes where a trainer logs into your computer.
The course is delivered part time over 16 weeks (12 hours per week) or full time over 8 weeks (24 hours per week).
- This course is multi-modal with a combination of distance (online) learning and remote private classes (no attendance is required)

- This course includes 3 units of competency which are nationally accredited
Enrolment into this course is by direct entry.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants are issued with a Statement of Attainment for 3 nationally accredited units of competency.
These units can be used as direct credit for a range of Nationally Accredited courses such as the Diploma of Interior Design, the Certificate IV in Interior Decoration and the Certificate IV in Kitchen and Bathroom Design.
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be residing in Australia
- Must not have a Student Visa
- Year 10 (or equivalent) level English and basic maths calculations and measurements
- Computer literate in basic Microsoft or equivalent programs
when can i start?
Course start dates
For our accredited courses, we generally have an intake each month (except December). These dates have been confirmed for 2022:
- 6th June
- 4th July
- 8th August

This course is focused on the design and documentation of modular kitchens. You will learn about:
- elements and principles of design
- design trends, styles and technologies
- Client interview
- design checklist
- plan, document and present modular kitchen concepts
- industry standard sizes and conventions in the construction of cabinets and components
- kitchen layouts and work zones
- product knowledge to apply to the selection of materials
3D CAD is used in the presentation of 3D Design Concepts
This course will equip you to respond to the challenges of a design project for the design of a modular kitchen and present your concept to the client.
This course includes the following nationally accredited units of competency:
BSBDES303 Explore and apply the creative process to 3D forms
BSBDES401 Generate design solutions
MSFKB3009 Provide advice on modular kitchens
It also includes:
3D CAD for Kitchens to produce concept drawings, renders and video fly-throughs.
